April Wrap-Up!

It’s May apparently, I’m not sure how. Days don’t exist anymore and time feels like the dot in Jeremy Bearimy (watch The Good Place for further enquiries)

BOOKS:

Okay, you might want to be sitting down now because……I read 12 books?? (my coping mechanism is reading fluffy YA contemporaries and it shows) (this is never going to happen again though because arranging the covers semi-aesthetically was a PAIN)

Foolish Hearts This Adventure Ends First & ThenThe Chaos of Standing Still The Flatshare You Deserve Each Other The Paper Magician The Glass Magician (The Paper Magician, #2) First Year (The Black Mage, #1) The Black Witch (The Black Witch Chronicles, #1) The Iron Flower (The Black Witch Chronicles, #2) Foundryside (Founders, #1)

Here’s a brief summary of the books I probably won’t review:

The Chaos of Standing Still by Jessica Brody ★★★.5: 24 hour time frame in a stranded airport where MC ghosts her dead best friend, plays subway surfers irl and maaayyybbee falls in love. Super rushed ending with random Eternal Flame serenade.

First Year by Rachel E. Carter ★★: Annoying girl with weak powers (which are secretly strong *shock face*) meets emo prince dude and tries to get stronger + not fall in lurveee but evil mean girl does evil things. This entire book was a training montage with one dimensional characters and non existent world-building.

The Paper Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg ★★★: MC wants to bond with cool materials like metal and plastic but she’s forced to work with paper (ew) but her eccentric (and single) teacher tries to convince her origami is fun! Half of the book takes place in a LITERAL HEART (like she actually travels through the vents idk dude) and then weird Inkheart thing happens.

The Glass Magician by Charlie N. Holmberg ★★: A wild ‘foreign’ person appears and MC doesn’t want to be racist but he gives villain vibes (which he ofc is). A single bachelor appears who can’t cook and MC doesn’t want to be sexist but wife him up.

BLOG:

I changed my blog design

If you hate it, cool I do too. I can’t figure out fonts and header sizes and after maybe 2 hours with remarkably mediocre results I just took the L. I guess I was blue (da ba dee da ba daa) and wanted to express my inner smurf (how do smurfs reproduce if there’s only one female?…I don’t want to know anymore, mom pick me up I’m scared)

(idk what to say, these are all bops go listen to them)

GOALS:

(ohhhh spicy new category alert, I figured if I want to stick with the blogging thing and not take sporadic hiatuses I need something to look forward to)

  • Read a classic book: I read too many YA contemporaries and I must be stopped, it’s been eons since I picked up a classic so I’m probably going to ease myself into it and re-read Anne of Green Gables or Little Women.
  • Get 4 more followers: I technically can’t do anything about this (I could create fake accounts and follow myself but too much effort). I want to get to 350 because I like numbers that are a multiple of 5.
  • Actually do online courses: I needed to do this yesterday because I’m almost in my fourth year of college and the job market is looking pretty crusty.

OTHER LIFE STUFF

1) Quarantine life so far has just been this:

quar

2) I turned 20 this month and I feel old, I want a refund (yes, I turned 20 in 2020, 2000 birth year is truly superior). My entire family have quarantine birthdays (me + dad had April birthdays, sis + mom have May birthdays) (pls send advice on how to make birthday special with limited resources)

3) My college is giving out assignments and tests like it’s free real estate.

4) That’s it really…here’s a meme:

DAMN SHRIYA (just gonna flex my magician skills here) YOU HAD A PRODUCTIVE READING MONTH!! I’m so proud of you for reading twelve books (?!) even if they were all YA contemporary lmao. Still awesome! I read like two books XD. Your comments on The Glass Magician were hilarious haha.
Also, happy late birthday!! Tips for spicing up bdays: these might be cliche but my parents both had quarantine bdays (and mother’s day) so I’d say bake/cook something special (like banana bread?) and make a card that has no content but looks a e s t h e t i c (tips? pretty handwriting, flower borders, small card). There! 😉 here’s my handy-dandy kit for you lol.
Also, would you like me to design you a header? I’d love to do that (for free of course) and it can be kind of simple but it’ll be fun for me too 🙂
    Have an awesome May!

Best of luck for this month’s reading! Hope you enjoy Little Women or Anne of Green Gables, whichever one you decide to pick up 😉 even though it’s not a bad thing to read YA contemporaries! They definitely do read fast and you end up binging them all day long 😀
